Welcome to my new blog! Here I will show you some of the many plants I offer at my nursery, Hidden Meadow Farm. We are located near Adrian, Mo, and I have a wide selection of perennials and some ornamental trees. Spring is finally here, after a very mild and dry winter. Nevertheless I did not plant my veggies seeds earlier this year, simply because I do not have a crystal ball, especially where Missouri weather is concerned! I’m old enough to have seen snow in May! Some tomato varities I have are Early Girl, Big Boy, Better Boy, Jet Star, Lemon Boy and Juliet.
All the perennials are leafed out and some are blooming. To give a quick overview: The pink Phlox is absolutely stunning! The Hostas are bright and green, as are the Daylilies. I have 12 different varieties of Hostas ready to go, and 8 other varieties that are still babies but will be ready for fall planting–so keep that in mind for fall! I’ve lost count of the Daylily varieties, but I have at least 12 different varieties of them. Many are rebloomers that give color all summer long.
My weeping willows are getting to be a good size and so are the weeping Japanese Maples. I also have two nice sized regular Japanese Maples that need a new home and will take off once they get in the ground. They would be beautiful in your landscape with their red colored leaves. I have other trees that range in height from about 2 feet on up, such as Magnolia and Fringe trees. My shrubs include Forsythia, Variegated Weigela and others, Old Fashioned Lilac and Persian Lilac.
My annuals are coming along nicely, despite the delay in getting them. The Alabama Coleus is very colorful and the black sweet potato vine is branching nicely. Verbena is blooming. I also have Lantana, geraniums and herbs. I decided to try some houseplants this year, so have Goldfish plant and Lipstick plant. My son suggested cross-breeding and we could have a goldfish with lipstick!
I’m trying something new this year. I’ve using some plastic grow bags that are lighter and help the plant develop a longer root system. These bags when emptied can be folded up for easy storage or they can be recycled. Let me know how you like them as opposed to the plastic pots.
Well that’s all for now. Must get out and do potting, potting, potting! Hope to see you or hear from you. Please feel welcome to leave a note. I do ship plants to those of you who cannot make it out.
This site is a work in progress, so please be patient as I create this blog. If you have any questions about my products please feel free to email me at hiddenmeadow@copper.net.
